Central Colorado Dermatology is located in Located in central Colorado in the Upper Arkansas River Valley.  Salida has more than a dozen 14,000-foot tall mountain peaks, surpassing all other Colorado regions. It is an outdoors paradise with year-round activities that includes an almost complete A-to-Z adventure list: archery, biking, camping, climbing, fishing, four-wheeling, golfing, hiking, hunting, kayaking, picnicking, rock hounding, skateboarding, skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, and a zipline tour. 

Central Colorado Dermatology has two board certified dermatologist providers (one of which is a fellowship trained dermatopathologist) and offers a full range of medical and surgical dermatology services. 
The Histotechnologist will be responsible for:

  • Performing all routine and special histology procedures, including frozen sections for Mohs.
  • Embedding, cutting, mounting, and staining tissue specimens.
  • Maintaining processor, cryostat and other lab equipment.
  • Labeling slides, filing slides, accessioning and grossing tissue.


  • A minimum of 3 years Histology Technician experience.
  • HT (ASCP)/ HTL (ASCP) certification
  • Superior organizational, technical and operational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • The ability to work independently, yet also effectively participate as a part of a team.
  • Monday – Friday work week

Summary – Histotechnologist 

Provides high quality routine Hematoxylin and Eosin, immunohistochemically and histochemically stained slides to pathologist for routine or complex diagnosis and prognostic markers.

Job Duties

  • Embeds and sections processed tissue sections to produce slides for diagnosis.  Sections frozen tissue to produce slides for quick diagnosis during surgical procedures.
  • Performs special staining techniques for interstitial elements of tissue sections to include micro-organisms and various cellular components including antigens and enzymes for complex diagnosis and prognostic markers.
  • Conducts research and titrations of new antibodies used as diagnostic tools for diagnosis and prognosis.  Serves as a consultant to laboratory staff and other clinical areas as needed.

·         Maintains immediate work area and equipment used for embedding and sectioning specimens.  Maintains processing equipment, strainers and solutions used in the process


  • Associate's Degree in related field and graduate of an accredited Histotechnican or Histotechnologist program, or qualified by CLIA grandfather exception.
  • Certified as a Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histotechnican (HT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
