CSH Awards


Only active members are eligible to be nominated for and receive the following awards with the exception of the vendor of the year award.

Charles Churukian Excellence in Staining Award

Sponsored by: Cell Marque ($300)


This award is to honor and remember one of Histology’s outstanding pillars who dedicated his life to the Histological Sciences and to our Society. He was an outstanding mentor, and innovator, and a true Humanitarian. Our Society and the Profession of Histotechnology would not be the same without this remarkable individual. The Charles Churukian Excellence in Staining Award will be presented annually at the CSH spring meeting. It will be given to an individual in recognition of their outstanding performance and dedication to the Histological Sciences. The amount of $300 and a plaque will be presented to a CSH member based on the following criteria: 

1. The recipient must be an active CSH member in good standing (dues paid) for a minimum of one year.
2. The recipient will be nominated by a fellow CSH member in good standing (dues paid).
3. A letter of support must accompany the nomination (use the appropriate text box below) indicating what the nominee has done to promote Histology in one of the staining fields (H&E staining, Special Staining, or IHC staining).
4. If we receive no qualifying nominee this award will not be given out that year.
5. The nominating letter will be made available to the society on the CSH website at the time of voting.
6. The winner of the award will be the nominee receiving the most number of qualified votes from the general CSH membership and the award will be presented at the annual spring meeting.

C.L. Sturkey Dedication to Histology Award

Sponsored by: C.L. Sturkey ($300)


The C.L. Sturkey Dedication to Histology Award will be presented annually at the CSH spring meeting. It will be given to an individual for their dedication and service to support and promote Histology. The amount of $300 and a plaque will be presented to a CSH member based on the following criteria:

1. The recipient must be a member of CSH in good standing (dues paid) for a minimum of two years.
2. The recipient will be recommended by a past or present CSH Board member.
3. The present officers of the CSH will determine the selection with the consultation of C.L. Sturkey.
4. Immediate past winners and company representatives will not be eligible for this award.
5. The award will be presented at the annual meeting and used for furthering the development of Histology as decided by the recipient.

Please note that members are not eligible to submit nominations or vote on this particular award. Nominations and voting are eligible by current and past CSH board members only.


David J. Davis Histological Education Grant

Sponsored By: StatLab Medical Products ($500)


This Grant is to be awarded to a member of CSH in good standing (dues paid) who has made an exemplary contribution to Colorado state, national, or international histology education. The Grant is sponsored by StatLab Medical Products in the amount of $500. In addition, the recipient will receive a plaque in recognition of their accomplishments. The Grant will be presented on an annual basis during the CSH spring meeting. The award will be presented to a CSH member based on the following criteria:

1. The recipient must be an active CSH member in good standing (dues paid) for a minimum of 2 years.
2. A letter must be submitted by the applicant (use the appropriate text box below) describing what they have accomplished in promoting Histological education (on a Colorado state, national or international level). Note: the educational accomplishments must have taken place within the past 2 years.
3. A letter or email from a supervisor, a pathologist, or a certified (HT or HTL) Histologist supporting and validating the applicant's accomplishments.
4. Applicant must submit an updated curriculum vitae with home address and present employer information included.
5. The CSH awards chairperson will receive all applications and forward those that fulfill the above criteria to the President of the CSH.
6. The winning application will be decided upon by a majority vote of the CSH board and approved by a member of StatLab Medical Products.
7. In lieu of no qualified applicants, the grant will not be given out that year.

Examples of Histological Educational Promotion Activities:
• Assisting in the education and development of existing and future Histologists.
• Giving classes in Histology and/or setting up educational opportunities for Histologists (Colorado or nationally)
• Giving classes, consulting, and/or promoting the histological profession internationally.

Note: Any incomplete application will be considered void.


Histotech of the Year


This award is given to an outstanding Histologist, whose dedication to the society and histology as a whole is a great benefit and should be recognized for that dedication. A plaque will be presented to a CSH member based on the following criteria:

1. The recipient must be an active member of CSH in good standing (dues paid) for a minimum of one year.
2. The recipient will be nominated by a member of CSH in good standing (dues paid).
3. The member who nominates the candidate for this award must submit a letter explaining what the candidate has done to promote Histology in the immediate past year (Teaching, Developmental, and/or Promotional).
4. This letter will be made available to the society on the CSH website at the time of the voting.
5. The winner of this award will be the nominee receiving the most number of qualified votes from the general CSH membership and the award will be presented at the annual spring meeting.

























Milestone Medical Advanced Technology Histology Award

Sponsored by: Milestone Medical ($350)


This scholarship is to be awarded to a member of CSH who has demonstrated dedication and service to support green/lean lab initiatives, by defining protocols that document and standardize the histology process in order to improve the overall quality, consistency and reproducibility of histology preparations in their laboratory. This scholarship is sponsored by Milestone Medical in the amount of $350.00. In addition, the recipient will receive a plaque in recognition of their accomplishments. This scholarship will be presented on an annual basis during the CSH spring meeting. The award will be presented to a CSH member based on the following criteria:

1. The recipient must be a member of CSH in good standing (dues paid) for current year.
2. A letter must be submitted by the applicant (use the appropriate text box below) describing what they have accomplished in promoting green/lean lab initiatives, how they have defined protocols, standardized the histology process and improved the overall quality, consistency and reproducibility of the histology preparations.
3. A letter or email from a supervisor, a pathologist, or a certified (HT or HTL) Histologist supporting and validating the applicant's accomplishments.
4. The recipient of this award will be the nominee receiving the most number of qualified votes from the general CSH membership.
5. Immediate past winners and company representatives will not be eligible for this award.
6. The award will be presented at the annual meeting and used for furthering the education and implementation of advanced technologies such as green/lean lab initiatives and process standardization. 

Monte Thompson Memorial Scholarship ($200)


One scholarship in the amount of $200 will be given for the purpose of continuing education and can be used for any histology meeting expense, college course, teleconference, textbook, examination fee, etc. to further the individual in the field of histotechnology. Preference will be given to students presently involved in the practice of histotechnology or related fields. The eligible member receiving the highest number of votes will receive the award. Requirements for this scholarship are as follows:

1. The nominee must be a current member of CSH in good standing (dues paid) for a minimum of one year.
2. A letter of support must be submitted with the nomination explaining why the individual deserves the award. 


New Kid on the Block Award


This award is given to an individual who’s new to our society or the histology field and has proven to be a great asset to our society and the histology field.

President’s Award








This award is given to an individual at the discretion of the president in recognition for their valuable contributions to the society.

Vendor of the Year Award


This award is presented to an outstanding sales representative that the society would like to recognize for their dedication to the society and histology.
